We've are almost completing our application, i guess latest by tommorrow, we can complie everything together.

Problems we faced:
Quite a few changes were made. therefore some other sections were affected too. We didn't give up, stayed on until 8:30 to do our work. managed to complete almost all. we're still a few steps to completion!
we're not planning to sleep tonight. :(

Rush hour

Panic and stress began to surface as we find it hard to meet with our initial work plan. 8613 intend to complete the whole application by weekend so that we could to do refining, together with the web and packaging for this week.

We bump into many problems and considerations that we previously overlooked. Also, we have to redo our character design and background for the main, which Ms Pat pointed out the no nos in them.

For today, we finalised the opening and ending for the game and hopefully the whole application can be completed by tomorrow, which is presently 90% done. It questions me(Jesslyn) when I saw the other group's application integrated with very interesting games.

So how interactive is our application? Previously Mr Eric Tan commented that ours looks like a video screening without much interaction. It was then we decided to change our application into a game which allows more interactivity. There's a lot of ideas that we decided to scrap off because of time constraint and the difficulty met in the scripting part.

Nevertheless, we hope to give our best on this friday =)

Today is a Saturday, and 8613 did not meet up to do work, reason being we would most probably be stuck with only one computer if we went to someone's house to do work. So we decided to work at the comfort of our own homes, but staying online most of the time to keep in contact.

The whole application is 85% done. One of the areas - the background which we have to redesign - is very tricky. No one dares to start on it alone!

8613 realised that we do not have ample amount of screenshots and draft images for our documentation website. So we screen-captured the remaining incomplete project files. Hope they don't seem too wayang (fake, putting on an act).

I(Wanni) experimented on the entertainment section which Bee Peng is in charge of. For the video camera subsection, I played with the idea of letting the user capture a shot of a passer-by. However it seemed too unnatural as the passer-by was exiting left, entering right and vice versa the WHOLE time, almost felt like I was trying to swat a fly instead of taking a picture. So *buzz*! Switching to Plan B.

8613's Tasklist:

Our initial work plan was to leave the final week for post-production. If something crops up (touch our wooden heads), it may be pushed back by a day.

Refurnishing

Miss Pat came over to highlight some major no-nos in our application.

(1) Our tourist (the main character) doesn't look like a Korean; more like from India with the curly hair and robes.

- Solution:
Redo the character, however it is not the priority as of now.

(2) Background not interesting

- Solution:
Add depth and life to the background.

(3) Colour clashes
- Solution
Choose more appropriate colours (after our eye tests)

(4) Key control - Currently the way to exit scenes is the 'down' key on the keyboard, but it was regarded as an uncommon way, and the user might not get used to it.

- Solution:
8613 actually created intsructions for key control, we'll relook at it nevertheless.

8613 has about a week to complete the whole project, it is indeed fortunate that all four of us have the heart to do it.

Mid-phase presentation

Today's blogger is Wanni.

Marking a milestone of our Interactive Multimedia studio project 1 was the second presentation of our interactive application today. Thank you to everyone who paid attention. We wore our lanyards but it didn't bring us enough luck. :(

What worried us tremendously (and subsequently made us lose appetite afterwards!) was the comments that we received. Or rather, the lack of comments. Frankly speaking, silence (together with head-shaking and frowning) is the worst kind of reaction to receive.

Some comments from the lecturers were:

1) Interactivity too straightforward - we had red buttons signifying clickable areas, which erased all the fun of exploration away

2) Background too distracting - it was too bright, and the main reason was because of the flags which stood on top of a hill. Me and my bright idea! A classic case of 'drawing the snake and adding legs'.

3) Irrelevant interactivity - Initially, we included a section in which the user could choose what kind of hair he or she wanted for the character. But it was dismissed as weak linkage with the theme. Mr Choong suggested that we change the customisation to the Versalator instead of hair. We will add it if we have enough time later.

What we did today

Productivity was high today, partly due to the demoralizing comments we received which made us more motivated.

8613:

(1)Extended the exploring space of the main page.
(2)Took the lecturer's suggestions and adjusted the background to a duller shade.
(3)Created random passers-by in Flash, to add life to the application.
(4)Made interacting cast members more appealing in terms of colour and boldness.
(5)Debugged the moving background behaviour (still in progress)
(6)Started on the remaining two subsections - the Directory and Entertainment sections.

Each of the groups has been assigned to a lecturer for guidance. Word got around that the lecturers picked the groups to guide.

Though unsure of the truthness in the rumour, I (Wanni's opinion does not necessarily reflect that of 8613) am slightly dejected. It seems like the better groups have gotten the lecturers of 'popular demand'. Is it because the rest of the groups are beyond hope? Or that we are of no use to them? We're not good, but not that bad either what.

By the way, 8613's monitoring lecturers are Miss Pat and Weena, but we're not complaining! Miss Pat took us for Web Design before and she is an understanding person. :)

Some suggestions we received were actually considered by 8613 in the beginning. However, after umpteen times of overestimating one's abilities and causing unfinishable assignments in the past, we decided not to be overambitious this time, and scaled down our scope. If we were given three months to complete this project, we would go for all the bells and whistles. But unfortunately, it's three weeks we're racing against.

Aha, 8613 were quite productive today. We completed the graphics for two sub sections and is on our way to executing it in Director. To prepare for tomorrow's presentation, we have added some interactions like rollovers, drag and snap etc.

In the first section of the application, 8613 will be showing how our universal translator, Versalator works. After we're done with it in Director, 8613 got a few fellow mates to try out the application in ensuring that everyone understands what is going on. It was then we spotted some loop holes from the feedbacks given by them.

Tomorrow is the 2nd presentation *drum rolls*
People, remember to wear your LANYARDS! It will brings you luck (I'm just kidding!)

What did 8613 do today?
Continue doing more and more graphics. Trying to make the graphics look futuristic can be quite a headache. BUT 8613 will NEVER GIVE UP! heehee.....

What's more?
Finally we are able to see our character walk!!!! and not only that we can even pick a hair colour for our character. SO COOL!! At first, we face the problem of dragging the hair and snap it onto a correct sprite. BUT now its SOLVED.. all thanks to Wanni!!

The deadline is getting nearer and nearer.....but i know that 8613 will be able to make it!!!!! This coming wednesday there will be another presentation, hope that the lecturers will like our work....

8613 continued doing the graphics and we tried out what was completed into Director. The scripting part was a headache. When one problem was solved, there comes another. Wanni is the strongest in handling Lingo so she managed to get the application working as what 8613 wanted.

After doing a trial run with Director, we find that 8613 has to spend a lot more time in handling the scripts, so we hope to complete the graphics by weekend. By weekend?!? Yes, hopefully

Day 04.

Today we started doing our graphics for the application. Each of us were assigned to do certain graphics and we started doing research, sketching and digital mock ups. Had dicussion with Mr Eric and Miss Ng regarding our storyboard. The lectures gave us valuable comments so we did some ammendments to improve our storyboard.

For the rest of the day, we continued with our vector art graphics. Wanni did one of the character design and the other 2 will be done by Jesslyn. Beepeng do some of the graphics for the navigation while Amy will do the background graphics.

Its the 4th day of IMPJ1. We are glad that we at least had our concept approved by the lectures and we had finalised our storyboard. :)

Today's progress was better than yesterday. Our presentation of the two concepts went rather smoothly and we are glad that we have arrived at a stable spot at long last.

The members have begun to start on choosing the style for our graphics, and currently considering which navigation system to use (ie. the slide-out or pop-up).

Our progress for today was slower than what we were expecting because 8613 realized several loop holes when discussing the flowchart. Halfway through the discussion, we find that the contents that we intend to do are too much to handle. Ms Ng enlightened us by directing 8613 to the right track. This is when we started to narrow down the contents to something managable.

Done with the flowchart, 8613 splitted up to two groups to work on the two different storyboards. Amy and Beepeng work as one, while Jesslyn and Wanni will come up with another storyboard. Ocassionally, we will cross reference each other's work to compare the approach and style of graphics used.

Tomorrow is the presentation for our concept and storyboards. Please give 8613 your prayers and bless us with all your might that everything will go smoothly. Same as goes to other groups working on IMPJ1 ;)

About project: To create an interactive application based on the theme, Future Singapore 2050.

12th September marks the birth of 8613, as well as the start of this 3 weeks project. We were all brain malfunctioned from the numerous hours of brainstorming that comes with a wonderful package of rejection for our concepts, twice. 8613 did not have a clear headstart on our focal topic so we went around in circles before arriving to the final approved concept.

The problems that lecturers pointed out was that some of our ideas can be achieved in less than 10 years time while some of it were already implemented or seen in movies.After their comments, we went back and thought about what kind subject we want to focus on and 8613 eventually picked on one of our initial ideas to elaborate on it.

8613 conquered the proposal and final concept together for today, yeah! Tomorrow will be a better day ! =)
